Koh Phi Phi or Phi Phi island is a combination of six islands located on the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. These beautiful limestone islands are located around 40 kilometers from the Thai mainland. They can be easily reached by ferry or speedboat from either Phuket or Krabi.

Koh Phi Phi Don

Koh Phi Phi Don is also one of the main islands near Phuket. This beautiful island is formed from a narrow sandy strip of beach that separates Tonsai Bay and Loh Dalum Bay from each other. Toansai Bay is also the main arrival and departure center for most of the boats and ferries from Phuket.

The Phi Phi Don is the only inhabited island where all the hotels, resorts, guesthouses, bars, banks, dive centers, and restaurants are found. The Pier side (Tonsai Bay) is always busy with daily tourism and diving as it acts as an entry and exit point. Phi Phi Leh

The best time to visit Maya Bay is 8 am and 3 pm, Maya Bay is the busiest island and when you hire any ferries or speedboats from Phuket, they are always very crowded.

Phi Phi Leh and the Bida Islands are famous worldwide for their stunning colorful corals and marine life, these are the Phi Phi Islands’ main dive sites. To the north of Phi Phi Don, two islands “Koh Mai Pai (Bamboo Island) and Koh Yung (Mosquito Island)” are also found, which makes the Phi Phi Island Group.

All the Weather and seasons are best to Visit Phi Phi Island. You can visit here all year. The dry season which is a high season starts from November to April/May. This time the weather is most stable with lots of sunshine, blue skies, peaceful seas with a gentle breeze that welcomes you to cool down. And the low season starts from June to October and this time the weather begins to cool a bit in which many good days of sunshine and calm seas can be expected with short heavy rain showers for 1 or 3 hours in the morning or evening. Usually, Phi Phi Islands receive too little rain than the mainland because of its location in the open ocean and not any fear of facing the worst of the wind and waves which keep safe the sheltered location. So, no matter the weather or season, diving and visiting are possible all the year around the islands.

Activities and Things to do in Phi Phi

The most famous trek in Phi Phi Island is called the “Viewpoint,” here you will get three different hikes that also offer views of the whole island and both bays. If you want to spend some relaxing time then you can sit by the beach with fresh young coconut, take a longtail boat around the island, have a traditional Thai massage, or simply sit by one of the fantastic hotel pools. All of these options are a great way to enjoy the island’s marine life.

How to Get Here

Phi Phi Islands are easy to get from either Phuket or Krabi, both are served as international airports. From Krabi airport, it takes around 15 minutes to reach the ferry port by taxi or any public transport. The departing time of the ferries are generally 9 am, 10:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3 pm. You can get the ticket from either ferry port or the airport.

And from Phuket airport to reach ferry port takes around 1 hour by private taxi or minibus. The ferries service starts here from 8:30 am, 11 am, 1:30 pm, or 3 pm. The total travel time from both the Krabi and Phuket is just under 2 hours. You can also get to Phi Phi Islands from other like Koh Lanta or Koh Lipe.
