Airport Taxi what should I pay

Travelling to Phuket means that you will probably be reliant on public transport rather than hiring out a car. The cost of living in Phuket is low so hiring a car will be excessive for the distances traveling, also will make you stand out as tourists and possibly attracting the wrong type of attraction.

A disadvantage of going to another country is the chances of being overcharged. Tourists all over the world are overcharged, especially where there is unlikely to be repeat business such as taxi services. Phuket, as is the case for mainland Thailand, is an island of peaceful, caring residents, with a steeped tradition of looking after each other as their basic principles of life, following the teachings of Buddha.

It is still prudent to be aware of what costs are reasonable to pay, especially for that important journey from the airport to the hotel. You’re tired, it’s been a long journey and the last thing you want to experience is a chancer pushing their luck with the taxi fare.

Phuket is 48km long, and Phuket International Airport is in the north of the island, so the furthest you can expect to travel to your destination is 50km, allowing for twists and turns in the roads, so bear that in mind when you book a taxi. The cost of living in Phuket will be less than at home so do not expect to pay the same costs as you would at home, even if you use an internationally known taxi / hire car company.

Always ask how much the fare is before you get into the vehicle, make sure that you know how much will have to pay and be prepared to negotiate, otherwise you may be paying more than you need to. It’s not personal, it’s just a cultural thing.

To make the most of your taxi ride make the effort to speak to your driver, engage with him or her. Being rude to your driver is guaranteed price hike. Remember to tip, it’s just polite. You never know if you will need the driver’s services again.

Average taxi fares from Phuket International Airport are: 600 Baht to Phuket Town,

800 Baht to Patong and 1000 Baht to Kata / Karon. Expect an airport surcharge of 100 Baht for all your bags if you have a lot.

There is also a shuttle service you can get from as little has 200 baht
